Towels all day long on the chaise lounge earn tourist court payout

A tourist who found his vacation in Greece was not sufficiently relaxing has at least gotten some of his money back thanks to a court payout.

According to the BBC, the unidentified man sued his tour operator after he was unable to find free sun loungers for him and his family.

The man claimed that he woke up at 6 a.m. each day in an effort to secure a lounger, only to find each one claimed by other guests who’d simply left their towels on them as a reservation.

While the hotel apparently banned the practice of towel reserving, the suit claims that the man’s tour operator did not confront anyone abusing the system, thus allowing them to claim loungers in perpetuity.

The court agreed that the tour operator was responsible for making sure a “reasonable” amount of loungers would be available to guests. While the man had initially received a refund of about $400 from the company, the court ordered that he be paid about $1,000.
