Work begins April 7, expect traffic impacts through July
BOARDMAN – Travelers on I-84 near Exit 159 west of Boardman should expect intermittent lane closures beginning April 16 as crews begin bridge improvement work on the Tower Road Bridge.
Tower Road Bridge closures will begin in May. Watch for warning and detour signs.
Traffic impacts
The project is scheduled to be completed in July. This is the tentative schedule for project work and closures:
- Week of April 7: Crews will bring equipment onsite, install erosion control and place temporary signs.
- April 16-30: Single-lane closures on I-84 in both directions while crews install a containment system under the bridge to safely capture debris.
- Week of May 11: Tower Road northbound closure with signed detour.
- Week of May 26: Tower Road southbound closure with signed detour.
- June 6-25: Full closure of Tower Road Bridge. Westbound travelers will use a detour. Love’s Truck Stop will stay open for eastbound travelers and those using the detour.
- July: Crews will complete paving, striping and sign installation. Expect occasional nighttime ramp and lane closures.
Detour

Eastbound
Tower Road and Love’s Truck Stop will remain accessible from Exit 159.
Westbound
To access Tower Road and Love’s Truck Stop, take Exit 151/Three Mile Canyon, head east on I-84 and take Exit 159.
To return to westbound I-84 from Tower Road and Love’s Truck Stop, take Exit 159, head east to Exit 165, and use the westbound I-84 on-ramp.
