Story by Rodger Nichols for Gorge Country Meida
Oregon Senator Ron Wyden was in The Dalles yesterday for a town hall at the Readiness Center. Both he and Senator Merkley have guaranteed Oregonians that they will hold a town hall in every county in the state every year. The Senator opened the question and answer session this way:
“So let’s go right to questions, no subjects off limits. And I think I’ll just make one point, and that is, I read today that the number of Republicans in the Senate are talking about cutting healthcare to pay for the Iran war. I want it understood. I’m the point person for the Senate Democrats. It’s not going to happen on my watch, folks. I’m not going to. (Applause)”
And in response to a question about presidential efforts to eliminate vote by mail, the Senator had this response:
“There’s no issue as important as protecting this topic. And you may not have seen it, but a couple of days ago, the president told Reuters the important international publication that he couldn’t see why there was a need for an election. Put your arms around that one.”
