Thief’s alleged robbery attempt lost in translation

What we’ve got here is failure to communicate, and also failure to commit robbery.

NBC New York reports that an unidentified suspect allegedly used Google Translate to tell the employee of an Ecuadorian restaurant in Newark, New Jersey, located in a neighborhood with a large Hispanic population, that he was robbing them.

The alleged translated declaration threatened violence against the cashier working the register, who fled the situation. The suspect then allegedly attempted to grab and remove the register himself, but failed to do so.

He then left the restaurant empty-handed, but not before throwing the coffee that he purchased prior to making his robbery intentions known.

The suspect is now un fugitivo, which he probably doesn’t need Google Translate to figure out.
