‘Trump has dragged our country into yet another costly and counterproductive war in the Middle East that is already costing American lives.’
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore., the longest-serving member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, today voted against giving Donald Trump authority to wage war with Iran and criticized Republicans for handing Trump a blank check to wage yet another open-ended war in the Middle East.
“Despite campaigning against forever wars, Donald Trump has dragged our country into yet another costly and counterproductive war in the Middle East that is already costing American lives. Rather than check Trump’s imperial and inane war for oil, Republicans have now endorsed this war. U.S. servicemembers, their families and civilians will pay the price for his reckless war,” Wyden said. “At home, Trump’s war is driving up gas prices, making everything more expensive, and costing taxpayers billions while families can barely afford food or health care. U.S. families will continue to suffer the consequences of Trump’s disastrous actions until they have a president and Republicans in Congress who are fit to lead.”
Wyden has strongly opposed reckless wars that do not improve U.S. national security. He was one of 23 senators to vote against the Iraq war, which cost trillions of dollars, thousands of American lives and damaged American credibility around the world.
