Turns out you can’t draw your license plate

While art can certainly take your imagination to far-flung places, sometimes it just can’t replace the real thing.

One of those instances is a car license plate, but that didn’t stop one California driver from trying to draw one.

The California Highway Patrol Merced Area office reports that an officer pulled over a driver after noticing something “unusual” about the car’s rear license plate.

“Upon closer look, it turned out to be handmade!” the office writes in a Facebook post.

“While we appreciate the effort to stay compliant after losing the original plate, California law requires vehicles to display state issued plates only,” the post continues. “If your plates are lost or stolen, you can easily get replacements through the DMV instead of breaking out the art supplies.”

We’re guessing hand-drawn driver’s licenses are a no-no, too.
