Wreckless Driver Arrested in Sherman County

On July 30, 2025, at approximately 6:34 PM, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a semi-truck and trailer traveling southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 6. The reporting party stated the truck was observed illegally passing a slower-moving vehicle in a clearly marked no-passing zone while navigating a blind corner.

During the incident, a northbound vehicle narrowly avoided a head-on collision with the semi by braking abruptly and veering completely off the roadway. A witness traveling behind the semi-truck reported that the suspect driver appeared to make no effort to avoid the near collision.

With the assistance of the witness, Deputy Burnett located the semi-truck and trailer a short time later near milepost 14 on Highway 97. A traffic stop was conducted, and following further investigation, the driver — identified as Sunil Mall of Sacramento — was taken into custody. He was transported to NORCOR and lodged on the following charges:

-Reckless Driving

-Three Counts of Reckless Endangerment

The Sherman County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the witness for their prompt and detailed report, which played a critical role in quickly identifying and locating the suspect vehicle. If you witness reckless or dangerous driving please call 911 or the non-emergency line 541-384-2077.
