The world of competitive eating is now expanding to different species.
According to Gothamist, New York City is hosting the first Great Goat Graze-Off on July 12, which will pit five goats against each other to see how fast they can tear through a set amount of plants.
“We are very excited to get into this because in my view, it opens up the entire animal kingdom for our franchise,” says host George Shea, who also emcees the famed Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
The competitors, named Romeo, Mallomar, Butterball, Kash and Rufus, have had plenty of practice from their experience of grazing invasive plants for NYC’s Riverside Park Conservancy.
“[The event will be] held to celebrate the eating prowess of the goats and to kick off a new season of ridding Riverside Park of invasive plants,” Shea says.
