SALEM, Ore. — After the announcement that Lesly Muñoz will become the Oregon State
Representative of House District 22, Oregon House Democrats will hold 36 seats for the 2025
legislative session. This supermajority will allow House Democrats to continue working on the
most critical needs facing the state.
“Oregonians are sending a clear message that they want a state where everyone has the freedom
and opportunity to succeed. House Democrats will protect what makes Oregon special and show
that this state is for everyone. We take this responsibility seriously,” said Majority Leader
Ben Bowman (D-Tigard, Metzger, & S. Beaverton). “In the 2025 session, we will improve
the lives of all Oregonians with a focus on affordability, making government work, and keeping
Oregonians safe. It’s time to get to work delivering results for working people and protecting
Oregonians’ basic rights and freedoms.”
Despite a national shift, Oregonians opted for a different path forward. In addition to flipping a
house seat from Republican to Democrat, Oregon voters supported Democratic incumbents at
higher rates than they did in 2022.
“Over the past two years, our work in Salem has been centered on governing our state with a
steady hand and making progress on the issues that are most important to Oregonians –
housing, homelessness, cost of living, and public safety,” said Speaker Julie Fahey (D-West
Eugene, Veneta). “With election season now over, we’re ready to continue our work in Salem
to deliver on these critical priorities.”
