Officer Involved Shooting, Names Released

On Tuesday June 18, 2024 at about 1:41am Deputies with the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and the City of The Dalles Police Department (TDPD) attempted to stop a stolen commercial boom truck on west 6th street in The Dalles.  The driver of the truck refused to stop for police and a short pursuit ensued, culminating in one police car being rammed by the boom truck driver and three law enforcement officers firing on the suspect.  The suspect was killed by police gunfire. 

This press release is to identify the person who was shot and killed, as well as the law enforcement officers involved.

The person killed in this incident was a 68-year-old male named:

  • Jimmy L. Ewing
  • He was also known as August J. Law

From the City of The Dalles there were three officers involved, of which one fired on the suspect.

  • Officer Jeremy Dutton, 10 years of service to The Dalles.  Prior Service at Wasco County
  • Officer Nolan Randall, 2 years of service with The Dalles. Prior Service at Wasco County and the Goldendale WA police Department.
  • Officer Ezequiel Pitones, 2 weeks of service to The Dalles

Only Officer Dutton fired his service weapon during this encounter.

From the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office, three deputies were involved, of which two fired on the suspect.

  • Deputy Tyler Williams, 6 years of service
  • Deputy Joshua Augustus, 10 months of service
  • Deputy Kanyon Reams, 2 years of service

Deputies Williams and Augustus fired their weapons during this encounter.

This investigation remains active.  At the conclusion of the investigation the case will be delivered to the Wasco County District Attorney’s office for consideration.  From this point forward, release of any further information will come from the Wasco County District Attorney’s Office.
