Call it the $580 free lunch.
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada resident Mason Prima was using his McDonald’s app that offered a free meal to customers who used there drive-thru service. When he pulled out his phone to place the order in the drive-thru line, however, a cop pulled him over and handed him a ticket for using his cellphone while driving.
“I was kind of shocked to be honest. I’ve never had that before — I open up my app every time I go over to drive-thru and I’ve never had that issue,” he tells CTV News.
However, Saskatchewan police say in a statement to CTV that Prima was on a public roadway and not the drive-thru line when he pulled out his cellphone to place the order.
Nevertheless, Prima’s fighting the $580 ticket in court. His hearing is set for July 31.
