Boehnke school bus trespass bill continues to move forward in state Legislature

Trespassing on a school bus would be a serious crime under a bill making its way through the state Legislature.

Senator Matt Boehnke’s legislation was prompted by an incident in his district where a bus driver was killed trying to protect children from a man who entered the bus with a knife.

The Richland Republican’s measure originally would have made school bus trespassing a felony, but the penalty was changed to a gross misdemeanor during the legislative process.

The bipartisan bill passed out of the Senate earlier and now awaits floor action in the House.
