Tah’rim Brown Sentenced to 160 Months in Prison for Armed Robbery, Attempted Murder

Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced today that a Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge sentenced Tah’rim Ghalib Brown, 33, to 160 months in prison for a string of  robberies – five that took place last summer and one that took place earlier this year.

In one week last summer, between August 26 and September 2, a masked suspect committed five robberies primarily in Northeast Portland while armed with a replica pistol. The spree included robberies of two liquor stores, a gambling establishment, and a marijuana dispensary, which the suspect robbed twice. It ended on September 2, when Tah’rim Brown was apprehended after fleeing the scene of a robbery in Southeast Portland. PPB detectives were able to connect Brown to the robberies through comparison of video surveillance and a search of his car, which uncovered disguises used in the robberies containing Brown’s DNA, and a replica pistol. Brown was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and security was set pending trial.

In January 2023, Brown posted bail and was released to pretrial monitoring. Then on February 18, a Portland Police officer responded to an armed robbery at a different marijuana dispensary in North Portland. The suspect had entered the store, held up employees, and when one resisted the robbery, fired a shot before fleeing the scene. A PPB detective was able to collect a hat the suspect left behind, and DNA analysis of the hat revealed a match for Brown.

Plea and Sentencing

Deputy District Attorneys Julian Samuels and Charlie Weiss prosecuted this case. Related to the 2022 incidents, Brown pled guilty to four counts of Robbery in the Second Degree and two counts of Theft in the First Degree. Related to the February 2023 incident, Brown pled guilty to one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm and one count of Robbery in the First Degree with a Firearm.

Judge Angela Lucero imposed the 160-month prison sentence yesterday. Brown is currently in custody in Multnomah County and will be transported to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.

The DA’s Office thanks the Portland Police officers and detectives who assisted with this case.
