Former Governor Chris Gregoire Endorses Bob Ferguson for Governor

Gregoire was a three-term attorney general prior to her successful run for governor in 2004; currently serves as CEO of Challenge Seattle, an alliance of Washington business leaders committed to civic and policy progress

SEATTLE – Today, former Democratic Governor Chris Gregoire endorsed Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s exploratory campaign for governor. Gregoire’s endorsement comes on the heels of a growing list of endorsements for Ferguson, including over 200 from current and former elected officials, as well as tribes, labor unions, and business leaders — far outpacing his opponents.

“Bob Ferguson is the experienced, problem-solving, steady leader Washington needs right now,” Governor Gregoire said. “There is no challenge too big for Bob. From protecting access to reproductive care to fighting organized retail crime, Bob shows up when Washingtonians need him. He will make an outstanding governor, and I am proud to endorse him.”

Gregoire served two terms (2005-2013) as governor after three terms (1997-2005) as attorney general, during which time she worked on children’s issues, led efforts to pass new state ethics laws, strengthened rights for victims of identity theft, and negotiated an historic tobacco industry settlement. Since retiring as governor, Gregoire has served as CEO of Challenge Seattle, an alliance of 22 CEOs representing many of Washington largest employers, united to advance social and economic policy in the Evergreen State.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of Governor Gregoire,” said Ferguson. “From the day I took office as attorney general, I’ve patterned my work after her fierce advocacy for the people of Washington and steadfast commitment to the rule of law. As governor, I’ll look to her record of unflinching support for the rights of women, passion for kids and quality schools, and commitment to an economy that works for all Washingtonians.”
