In Olympia, the State House paused in its business Monday to honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. John Sattgast reports from the state Capitol.
Newly elected Representative April Connors was among speakers on House Resolution 4603 which honored the life and work of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior. In her maiden floor speech, Connors said much remains to accomplish Doctor King’s dream.
“Every year on this day, we not only reflect on Doctor King’s legacy, but we take account for the many strides we’ve made toward achieving racial equality. While we’ve come far, let us rededicate ourselves today to that unfinished work. Understanding that we are all tied together in a single garment of destiny.”
