While music education is important and brings a lot of value to anyone who picks up an instrument, it can also be expensive. A charity group in Miami is making it as easy as possible for kids to make music a part of their lives by bringing free music education to over 21,000 students at 131 schools.
Young Musicians Unite partners directly with schools to give children access to free instruments, expert teachers, and hands-on leadership skills.
The founder, Gonzalez Zeira, is a former Miami student musician who credits music class with shaping his own life. He designed the program to give kids a chance to be seen and feel part of something bigger than themselves.
“Kids need a reason to show up to school, and kids need an opportunity to be seen,” Gonzalez said. “And when they’re part of a music classroom, they’re part of something bigger than themselves.”
And thanks to his vision and hard work, thousands of kids each year get the chance to connect with music and with others — and also share their musical gifts with others in a special way.
