A woman in Rhode Island gave her husband the ultimate 20th wedding anniversary gift — donating one of her own kidneys to save his life just days before their big milestone.
When Giovanni Ricci was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease last year, his search for an organ donor led right back home to his wife, Lisa, who turned out to be a perfect match. Following a successful transplant surgery, the couple celebrated two major milestones from their hospital beds by renewing their wedding vows surrounded by their daughters. Hospital staff made the day even more special by delivering an anniversary meal and cake.
While the experience was sometimes scary, Lisa said it was all about the family from the very beginning. “Everything we do, we do for our kids,” she said. “We wanted to make sure he was around for our kids to have their dad around, and just be a family and be back to the way things were.”
