Action: Opens Chinook retention from Buoy 10 to the Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco and coho retention from the west end of Puget Island to the Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco.
Species affected: Salmon.
Effective date: Sept. 26–Oct. 31, 2026.
Locations and rules:
From a north-south line through Buoy 10 to the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line (a projected line from Rocky Point on the Washington bank through Red Buoy 44, to the red navigation marker 2 at Tongue Point on the Oregon bank):
- Sept. 26–27: Salmon and steelhead daily limit three salmon, including no more than one Chinook. Chinook minimum size 24 inches. Coho minimum size 16 inches. Release all salmon and steelhead other than Chinook and hatchery coho.
- Sept. 28–30: Salmon and steelhead daily limit three salmon. Coho minimum size 16 inches. Release all salmon and steelhead other than hatchery coho.
- Oct. 1–31: Salmon and steelhead daily limit six, including up to three adults. Salmon minimum size 12 inches. Release all salmon and steelhead other than hatchery coho.
From the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to a line at the west end of Puget Island projected from green navigation marker 39 on the Washington bank, to green navigation marker 41, then to red navigation marker 42, and terminating at red navigation marker 44A on the Oregon bank:
- Sept. 26–27: Salmon and steelhead daily limit six. Up to three adults, including no more than one Chinook. Salmon minimum size 12 inches. Release all salmon and steelhead other than Chinook and hatchery coho.
- Sept. 28–Oct. 31: Salmon and steelhead daily limit six including up to three adults. Salmon minimum size 12 inches. Release all salmon and steelhead other than hatchery coho.
From a line at the west end of Puget Island projected from green navigation marker 39 on the Washington bank to green navigation marker 41, then to red navigation marker 42, and terminating at red navigation marker 44A on the Oregon bank, upstream to Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco:
- Sept. 26–27: Salmon and steelhead daily limit six. Up to two adults, including no more than one Chinook. Salmon minimum size 12 inches. Release all salmon and steelhead other than Chinook and coho.
- Sept. 28–30: Salmon and steelhead daily limit six, including up to two adults. Salmon minimum size 12 inches. Release all salmon and steelhead other than coho.
Reason for action: The Columbia River Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) recently updated the upriver Chinook returns to the Columbia River mouth. Current in-season catch and stock composition projections indicate that sufficient Chinook and coho Endangered Species Act (ESA) impacts remain available, which allows for additional Chinook and coho retention days in these areas.
Additional information: Anglers are reminded that continuing to fish for jack salmon is prohibited once the daily adult salmon limit has been retained.
