David Worth, the filmmaker and cinematographer best known for directing the 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme martial arts classic Kickboxer, has died at 86. Worth died September 17th at his home in Los Angeles, his family confirmed. His career spanned more than five decades and included work as director of photography on Clint Eastwood’s Any Which Way You Can and Bronson Lee’s Bloodsport. Worth also directed Lady Dragon, Shark Attack 2 and episodes of television series including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. (Variety)
Netflix has renewed its young adult drama Crew Girl for a second season. The series, starring Jurnee Smollett, Alycia Debnam-Carey and newcomer Maggie Thurmon, follows an ambitious teenager who enters the male-dominated world of professional stock car racing. The renewal follows a strong showing on Netflix, where Crew Girl surged in the streaming service’s weekly rankings following its September debut. The fourth installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology was Netflix’s most-watched title during the September 14th-20th viewing period. Ella Beatty stars as Lizzie Borden alongside Rebecca Hall, Charlie Hunnam, Billie Lourd and Sarah Paulson. Despite reaching the top of Netflix’s chart, the season opened below the previous Monster installment about Ed Gein, which drew 12.2 million views during its first three days. (Variety)
