A new WalletHub study looked at the best places in America for women to live and thrive. While women make up a larger share of the population than men in many communities, pay gaps and leadership disparities still exist. Women working full-time earn about 82 cents for every dollar earned by men, and they’re still underrepresented in many business and political leadership roles.
To see where women have the best opportunities, WalletHub compared 182 cities using factors like women’s pay, job opportunities, health care, safety, poverty rates, and access to preventive care.
The Top 10 cities for women are:
- Columbia, Maryland
- Seattle, Washington
- Fremont, California
- South Burlington, Vermont
- Washington, D.C.
- San Francisco, California
- Overland Park, Kansas
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Gilbert, Arizona
- Santa Clarita, California
At the bottom of the list was Jackson, Mississippi, followed by Huntington, West Virginia; Shreveport, Louisiana; Gulfport, Mississippi; and Brownsville, Texas.
