Prescribed Burn Announcement (21 through 25 September 2026)
Columbia Land Trust, in collaboration with Mt Adams Resource Stewards and the Mt Adams Prescribed Burn Association, is planning a prescribed burn at Bowman Creek Natural Area (near Zelinski Road west of the Glenwood-Goldendale Highway) this week Monday 9/21 – Friday 9/25, weather permitting.
Expect to see fire personnel and smoke in the area. To keep emergency dispatch lines open, please do not report the smoke. The burn will be closely monitored. This prescribed burn will reduce accumulated fuels on the forest floor and lower the risk of future high-severity wildfire, in addition to improving forest health.
The county burn ban is still in effect, but this is a permitted broadcast burn with a comprehensive burn plan that has been permitted by Washington Department of Natural Resources.
Broadcast burns, unlike typical backyard burns, are conducted by trained personnel and utilize specialized equipment, including hundreds of gallons of water and fire engines on site.
Smoke may linger in the area for a few days, so you are encouraged to close your windows if you live nearby to reduce smoke exposure
