OLYMPIA – If you care about disability justice and want to work to achieve equity for people with disabilities, apply to volunteer for the Washington State Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues & Employment (GCDE).
The GCDE is seeking its next chairperson and members to join the 25-member committee. Each year, the group helps ensure that perspectives of people with disabilities are shared with state leaders to shape disability policy.
Committee members, including the chairperson, serve 3-year terms, with the possibility of being appointed to a second 3-year term.
The GCDE chairperson leads subcommittee chairs and workgroups, and ensures their activities meet annual goals.
The application deadline for all openings is Oct. 13, 2026.
GCDE promotes equity, opportunity, independence and full participation in life for people with disabilities. Committee members represent a range of disabilities, constituent groups, geographical perspectives, ethnic origins and cultural heritage.

Complete an online application for a board or commission on the governor’s website. Select “Disability Issues and Employment, Governor’s Committee on” from the first drop-down menu.
