While not as scary as the stampede that killed Mufasa, patrons at the Fort Wayne Zoo in Indiana recently went through their own wildebeest-related ordeal.
According to WANE, one of the zoo’s exhibits was evacuated after a wildebeest escaped from its enclosure and ended up in an adjacent habitat.
“The staff member who identified the issue acted immediately, and teams from Animal Care, Operations, Security, Education, Guest Services, Facilities, and others worked together calmly, professionally, and efficiently,” says the zoo’s Michelle Smurl. “Their quick actions allowed us to secure the area and provide the wildebeest with a safe path back into his habitat.”
Once the wildebeest safely returned, the exhibit reopened.
If one of the zoo’s other residents had orchestrated the wildebeest’s escape in a Shakespearean effort to murder the king of the animal kingdom and take the throne for themselves, well, it doesn’t appear to have worked this time.
