Story by Rodger Nichols for Gorge Country Media
The Dalles City Council chambers were packed with a standing-room only last night as the council recognized The Dalles Junior Baseball Association for a hat trick in state championships, as Mayor Rich Mays put it:
“It is my distinct pleasure to recognize The Dalles Junior Baseball Association Junior Hawks championship teams at the 10 and under level, 12 and under level and 14 and under level, all taking statewide championships in tournaments. I think we all acknowledge that success does not happen overnight. It takes a lot of discipline and dedication and hard work of every one of you guys for representing The Dalles for what you did.”

The 10 and Under team.

The 12 and under team

The 14 and under team

And the crowd.
Patrick Urain, Director of The Dalles Junior Baseball Association said the credit goes to a lot of people and organizations:
“The mayor covered the substantial components – the parents, the players, the commitments of the coaches. Those are all standard to making the season run. But not standing here today is 25, 30 different businesses across the community that help support this organization and help support these teams as they go out throughout their season. So I definitely want to make sure that we recognize the business community. This doesn’t happen without their donations.”
And Tom Peterson, representing The Dalles Main Street and the Fort Dalles Fourth Committee, had some praise to pass out for the successful 250th anniversary Fourth of July celebration.
“This event was so successful because so many people chose to work together. Cash sponsorships came from Pine Ridge Dental, Hood River Sand and Gravel, Mattress World Northwest and Explore The Dalles, along with generous in – kind contributions from Great Scout Productions, Gorge Country Media and Bishop Sanitation. This wasn’t just a 4th of July celebration. It was an investment in the community pride, our downtown and our waterfront.”
