We want to share a brief wrap-up from today’s unfortunate events.
This afternoon around 2pm, The Dalles High School went into a precautionary lockdown due to police activity in the surrounding area and a potential threat to the school. Out of an abundance of caution, Colonel Wright Elementary also entered a brief Secure, where exterior doors are locked and monitored while learning continues as normal inside.
The situation was quickly resolved, and the site was secured. Students were safely dismissed at their regular times.
We extend our sincere thanks to the The Dalles City Police Department and their law enforcement partners for their rapid response and continued presence to ensure safety.
We also appreciate our students, staff, and families for their calm cooperation and support throughout the day.

Schools are releasing students and no additional concerns have been identified at this time. Officers remain on scene at local schools to ensure safety.
The Dalles Police received a threat to The Dalles High School just after 2pm. We have responded to the High School with our police partners and are working with school officials to ensure that everyone is safe. You will see officers at the school at pick up today Friday April 17, 2026. School officials have followed local protocols and initiated a lock down. Investigators are assessing the threat. School will release at the normal time. Again, officers are on scene to ensure safety.
