Oh, possum! Airport gift shop home to surprise animal guest

Being awake at an ungodly hour at the airport may make you feel nocturnal, but one airport turned into an unexpected home for an actual nocturnal animal.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, a possum was found at a gift shop in Tasmania’s Hobart Airport. Fittingly, the possum had cuddled up amongst a shelf of stuffed animals.

“We found the possum sitting within the native plush,” says airport worker Liam Bloomfield.

The possum appeared “not stressed” among its inanimate relatives, but then incited excitement when it decided to take a tour of the airport.

“We had passengers here, there and everywhere, taking videos,” Bloomfield says. “It was a bit of a mad rush to make sure it was safe and no passengers were disrupted and that the possum got back home.”

The possum was eventually “safely escorted” out of the airport, Bloomfield says.

We’re guessing the gift shop employees will be triple-checking that all the animals in the store are actually stuffed going forward.
