Newhouse Votes to Fund Department of Homeland Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse released the following statement after passage of H.R. 8029, Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act. The legislation passed by a vote of 218-206.

“It’s Groundhog Day on Capitol Hill. Once again, the House of Representatives has passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security and pay TSA agents, Coast Guardsmen, FEMA employees, and CISA agents,” said Rep. Newhouse. This legislation makes our country safer and safeguards the American public from cyberthreats, terrorism, foreign adversaries, and illegal immigration. Unfortunately, Democrats are jeopardizing critical national security programs to try and advance nonsensical reforms to immigration enforcement. Congress has a Constitutional responsibility to fund the federal government and I urge the Senate to act swiftly to end the DHS shutdown.”
