As the 2026 legislative session headed into its final day, House Republican leaders said their caucus spent the session fighting tax hikes and stopping bills that would make Washington more expensive.
House Republican leaders say the 60-day session was a fight over affordability, taxes and the direction of state government.
Republicans fought for more than 24 hours on the House floor this week against a proposed state income tax before Democrats approved the measure.
At a news conference Wednesday, House Republican Deputy Leader Chris Corry said Republicans used every tool available to oppose the plan.
“Course we’re gonna fight. Course we’re gonna show every reason why you should be a no on this. And also, I think it was important to do it during the daylight.”
House Republican Leader Drew Stokesbary also says Republicans fought for affordability during the session and blocked many Senate bills they believed would have driven up costs.
“Republicans killed 54 percent of the bills that the Senate sent over to the House. Only 104 bills passed the House. That is the lowest number since 2014.”
Stokesbary says the session could end Thursday with fewer bills passing the House than in any year in more than a decade.
