WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday, Feb, 24 at 12:30 p.m. PST, Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs will join U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and several of her Democratic Senate colleagues Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), and Andy Kim (D-NJ) for a media availability with their State of the Union guests.
Sen. Cantwell and Sec. Hobbs will sound the alarm on the SAVE America Act, a bill championed by the Trump administration and congressional Republicans that would immediately sow chaos around voter registration, make it more difficult to vote by mail, and ultimately block many American citizens from having their voice heard at the ballot box.
Sen. Cantwell announced last week that Sec. Hobbs would be joining her as her invited guest at the State of the Union.
“I am asking Secretary [of State] Hobbs to join me at next Tuesday’s State of the Union address. I hope to bring attention in Washington, D.C., to Washington’s voter laws, our unbelievable participation in vote-by-mail, and why my colleagues have to stop the SAVE Act. The Senate should instead protect our voting rights and protect us from the bureaucracy that is not going to create free and fair elections. We have to fight back.”
Sec. Hobbs released the following statement: “Election access and security are not competing values. Washington has long made voting accessible while also protecting the integrity of the system and the personal information voters entrust to their government.”
In addition to Sen. Cantwell and Sec. Hobbs, the press conference will feature:
- Democratic Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his guest, Dani Bensky, an Epstein Survivor and advocate
- Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and her guest Jeremy Schumacher, whose insurance shot up 288% in 2026 as a result of Trump and Republicans refusing to extend ACA tax credits.
- Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) and his guest, Cathy Rowe, the Executive Director of New Jersey Advocates for Aging Well
- Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) and her guest, Maria Mesias-Tatnall, the Director of Outreach & Immigration Assistance for the Delaware Department of Justice
- Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN)
