The Dalles Pool opens for one day of sturgeon retention

Action: Opens one day of white sturgeon retention.

Species affected: White sturgeon.    

Location: Columbia River from The Dalles Dam to John Day Dam and all adjacent Washington tributaries.

Effective dates and sturgeon rules:  

  • Immediately through Feb. 15: Catch-and-release fishing only.
  • Feb. 16 only: Daily limit one. Minimum fork length 43 inches. Maximum fork length 54 inches.
  • Feb. 17-April 30: Catch-and-release fishing only.

Reason for action: Current catch projections indicate this fishery can support one day of harvest opportunity.   

Additional information: The Dalles Pool remains open for catch-and-release sturgeon fishing on days not open to retention, as do many other stretches of the Columbia River. For more information about white sturgeon fishing, refer to WDFW’s white sturgeon webpage.

Location: Columbia River from Bonneville Dam to The Dalles Dam and all adjacent Washington tributaries.

  • Immediately through Feb. 15: Catch-and-release fishing only.
  • Feb. 16 only: Daily limit one. Minimum fork length 38 inches. Maximum fork length 54 inches.
  • Feb. 17-April 30: Catch-and-release fishing only.
