Connors warns income tax would expand as Democrats pursue more taxes

Washington taxpayers already facing higher costs could soon see even more taxes as majority Democrats push new revenue proposals, including an income tax Republicans warn will eventually hit everyone.

House Republican Floor Leader April Connors says promises that an income tax proposed by Democrats would only affect the wealthy cannot be trusted, warning the burden will ultimately reach all taxpayers.

“This is not going to just sit with millionaires. It’s going to sit with everyone.”

Connors, a Republican from Kennewick, also criticized what she says are misplaced priorities as majority Democrats continue advancing tax proposals during an affordability crisis.

“They were like, it’s going to save you on your deodorant and your shampoo. And I’m like, that’s because this bill stinks.”

Connors says lawmakers should focus on controlling spending and provide relief for struggling families, instead of seeking more money from them, as they cope with rising housing, energy, and everyday living costs.
