Suspected drunk driver arrested for hitting pedestrians

On December 5, 2025, at approximately 9:54 pm, Hood River Police Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence located in the Heights of Hood River.

While en route to the disturbance, several individuals at the intersection of State and 9th flagged down an Officer and reported a reckless driver had nearly struck them in the crosswalk. The pedestrians described the vehicle as a gray Toyota Tacoma traveling south towards Children’s Park. Since the pedestrians were unharmed, the Officer continued to the domestic disturbance.

Once two Officers arrived at the scene, the third Officer returned to the area and attempted to locate the pedestrians for an official statement. However, they were unable to be located. A few minutes later, Dispatch received a call reporting a reckless driver nearly hitting two pedestrians at 9th and State, with the callers stating they had followed the suspect vehicle until it pulled into the Hood River ER parking lot.

While two Officers investigated the domestic disturbance, the third Officer located the suspect vehicle, and the driver was subsequently taken into custody for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII).

If you are the two pedestrians who were nearly struck last night or have information regarding this incident, please contact our non-emergency number at 541-386-2711 and request to speak with Sgt. Rivera to provide a statement.

Our Officers prioritize the safety of our residents and visitors and take incidents of reckless driving extremely seriously. Drinking and driving should never be an option, particularly when operating a 4,000-pound vehicle.

Thank you
