Swedish man more than matches nostril-related world record

Parents will do anything for their kids, including testing the limits of the human body in hopes of breaking a Guinness World Record.

That’s why Sweden’s Martin Ströby decided to try to set the record for most matches held in the nose.

Ströby tells Guinness that he was looking through a record book with his children when they remarked how cool it would be if their father was in the book, too.

“At first I thought ‘I’m not good enough at anything to be the best in the world,'” Ströby shares. “But after my children showed me all the different world records I began thinking I might be able to find one I had a shot at breaking, thus began the search for a suitable one.”

He ended up sniffing out the nostril matches record, which had been set at 68 matches. After he stuffed in 35 in a test run, Ströby decided to test the record for real and ended up fitting a total of 81 matches in his nose.

“After doing the trial run, I discovered I could both stretch my nostrils a lot and also ignore the pain from putting all those matches in there, so I would say I’m a natural,” Ströby says.

While Ströby’s kids are certainly impressed that their dad is now officially a Guinness World Record holder, we have to imagine they’re not going to beat their father in any future argument. It’s hard to compete with “I stuffed 81 matches up my nose for you.”
