While maybe not quite as dramatic as Cosmo Kramer’s heroic tale, bus riders in the Canadian city of Hamilton still had an unexpected experience during a recent ride.
The Hamilton Police Service reports that a man hopped into a bus driver seat after its usual driver had parked the bus and left to take a short break. The man then proceeded to take the bus on a joy ride, but still let people off at stops when they requested it.
“The suspect proceeded to travel up the Hamilton Mountain, making multiple stops along the way, allowing passengers to board and exit freely,” the police say. “He even went as far as to deny someone looking to board with an expired Bus Pass.”
Eventually the man stopped the bus, whereupon he was “taken into custody without incident.”
“There was not a ding on the bus. He did a great job,” police spokesperson Trevor McKenna tells the CBC. “It’s comical but at the same time it’s serious. We’re thankful nobody was hurt.”
