$5 Christmas tree permits on Mt. Hood

Christmas tree permits can be purchased through December

The holiday season is officially here: Christmas tree permits for Mt. Hood National Forest are now available to purchase through December 31.

Christmas tree permits are available each year beginning in mid-November. Permits cost $5 per tree and each household can purchase up to five per year. The Christmas tree program can improve forest health by helping to thin densely populated stands of small-diameter trees. In turn, other trees can grow larger and provide forage and open areas to benefit wildlife.

Details about designated cutting areas, permit guidelines, safety & cutting tips, and where permits may be purchased are online at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/mthood/permits/christmas-trees

Visitors can purchase a Christmas tree permit online at Recreation.gov: https://tinyurl.com/mthoodtreepermit. It’s important to carefully read the overview and need-to-know information prior to purchasing the permit. A tree map is required when harvesting.

Christmas tree permits will be available for purchase on weekdays at the Sandy and Zigzag district offices this year.
