COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE – All travel lanes in both directions of Interstate 84 reopened Friday afternoon just west of Bonneville Dam in the McCord Creek Bridge Replacement Project until early 2026.
One lane in each direction had been closed since mid-October while crews drilled under the bridges, built a retaining wall and prepped the work zone on the highway for the crossover traffic configuration planned in spring 2026. The NE Frontage Road on-ramp to eastbound I-84 at the Elowah Falls Trail parking area has also temporarily reopened now that crews have finished work on the highway surface for the 2025 season.
In spring 2026, we will replace the aging eastbound I-84 bridge over McCord Creek to improve the safety and lifespan of the highway. Crews will continue working underneath I-84 by constructing supports beneath the eastbound bridge through the winter. This part of the project will not affect I-84 travelers.
