Convenience store offers inconveniently inedible items

If a convenience store offers only items that you can’t eat, is it really all that convenient?

A new shop opening in St. Petersburg, Florida, is modeled after your traditional mini-mart, featuring bags of chips, cans of soda and jars of peanut butter, except that every item is made out of felt.

St. Pete Rising reports that the store, named The Quick Shop, is actually an installation by British artist Lucy Sparrow. It is set to open on Nov. 21 as part of the FloridaRAMA immersive art exhibit. Even its shelves and cash registers are made of felt.

“Lucy’s work is such a natural fit for us. Her aesthetic and ethos really match ours,” FloridaRAMA CEO Liz Dimmitt says. “We’re excited to be launching it right in time for the holidays. It’s perfect for holiday shopping or a fun family outing.”

Every piece inside The Quick Shop is available for purchase, and Dimmitt describes it as “that sort of everything store.”

“Anything from fruit and veg to food to health and beauty,” Dimmitt says. “We’re even going to have a little adults-only section.”

Again, we must stress, do not eat the felt.
