Home improvement store greatly improved by return of missing cat

Curiosity may kill the cat, but this feline is alive and well after accidentally taking a 90-minute ride away from home.

Francine is a calico cat known for hanging out in Lowe’s store in Richmond, Virginia. As The Associated Press reports, Francine went missing in September, but was finally found at a Lowe’s distribution center about 85 miles away in Garysburg, North Carolina.

Security footage showed Francine sneaking into a vehicle during a particularly busy day. When the driver took off, Francine went with it.

“And then, of course, when she got down to the distribution center, she shot off the truck,” says store general manager Mike Sida. “That’s when we found out where she was and she was missing.”

With some help from animal control, humane traps were set up around the distribution center. When Francine was finally located and secured, Sida and store supervisor Wayne Schneider drove down to retrieve her.

“That ride going down, knowing that we were going to get her, was just heartwarming,” Schneider says. “Knowing she’s safe and that she’s coming back to the store to get off her two-week vacation.”

Unfortunately, when we go missing from our jobs unannounced for two weeks, our bosses aren’t as understanding.
