Travelers should expect lane closures, minor delays for paving on I-84

An issue in getting the needed asphalt delayed a planned paving project on I-84 this week. Work that was originally scheduled to begin on Monday Sept. 22 will now start tomorrow, Sept. 24. Drivers should plan for delays on Interstate 84 between mileposts 97 and 119 (The Dalles to Arlington) from tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 24 through Friday, Sept. 26 and again Monday Sept. 29 through Tuesday Sept. 30.

  •    Expect intermittent paving work in both directions.
  • Slow lane and shoulder closures will be in place daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to provide a safe work zone for crews.
  • Additional minor delays may occur after paving is complete for pavement striping throughout the project area.

This maintenance involves grind and inlay paving. Crews remove worn pavement and replace it with 2.5 inches of new asphalt. This method is a key part of preserving road quality and extending the life of the interstate.
