Nothing will ever stop us from loving our pets, even when they land at the vet after eating something they definitely shouldn’t. Now, some of our animals’ most unique vet visits are being celebrated with the Hambone Awards.
The annual prize is presented by Nationwide Pet Insurance and celebrates “the unexpected, the unusual, and downright outrageous events that lead to surprise veterinary visits.”
Among the 2025 nominees are Wash the mixed-breed dog, Ozi the Yorkie and Maddie the bulldog, who chewed/ate cicadas, a TV remote and a taxidermized alligator, respectively.
Not all the nominees were rushed to the vet because of their curious stomachs. Ziya the Belgian Malinois needed medical attention after protecting his human from a loose bull.
Voting for the winner of the 2025 Hambone Award is open now through Aug. 12, and the winners will be announced Aug. 19.
