We are truly grateful for their time and commitment to seeking justice for Deondrae Clark, who lost his life due to senseless gun violence.”
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office would also like to thank Portland Police Bureau Detective Chris Traynor for his work on this case and his commitment to pursuing justice for the family of Mr. Clark.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office would also like to thank MCDA Victim Advocate Lyssa Simmons for the compassion and care they showed the victims in this case.
THE FACTS:
On October 21, 2011 the victim Deandre Clark was near Jefferson High School where a football game was taking place. After the game, Mr. Clark and others remained in the area. Officers noticed Mr. Clark walked out of view on North Emerson for less than a minute before hearing eight to ten gunshots. Officers responded to the shooting scene to find that Mr. Clark had been fatally shot.
Three handguns were found near the shooting scene. One specific firearm was linked to the spent casings, which were left at the shooting scene. The firearm linked to the spent casings that struck and killed Mr. Clark was connected to the defendant through DNA evidence. In addition, video surveillance was recovered from the area, which showed the defendant fleeing the scene after the shooting.
While the investigation was taking place for the 2011 homicide, Mr. Crawford was involved in other criminal conduct in Washington State. In 2017 Crawford was sentenced to 164 months in prison for two 2015 Assault incidents, one of which involved a firearm.
In 2018, a Multnomah County Grand Jury indicted Crawford in connection with the 2011 shooting death of Mr. Clark. The 16 year prison term in the Multnomah County case puts the defendant’s release date from the Oregon State Department of Corrections around 2034.
