The Klickitat County Commissioners met today. During the morning work session, the Commissioners heard a report from Jeff Hunter with the Public Works Department on the big HVAC project:
“We have 3 things on your consent agenda. The first one is an approval of small works contract for the pioneer center HVAC replacement project; second one is small works contract for Klickitat County courthouse HVAC replacement. One good news that’s the last of units, they’ve all been replaced after these. In another 20 years or another probably 15 years, we’ll start this process again.”
The Sheriff’s report included a lively discussion as the Sheriff Songer asked for more of the money he felt was taken out of his budget to be returned back to his budget.
There was a very informative presentation by the Klickitat County Childcare Coalition by the lack of Child Care in the County. That is a good presentation and discussion worth watching the video on later in the week.
Klickitat County Childcare Coalition & Washington Gorge Action Programs have put together a video on the subject, you can view it online on Youtube.

In the afternoon session, Public Comment heard from Scott Robinson who suggested a 200-foot flagpole that he thinks would look perfect on the Courthouse lawn:
“We’re trying to create an attraction here in town that people will come to for the rest of time or whatever. It’s actually going to be a record high flag poll in the state of Washington. There is no other flag that is 200 feet tall. The tallest ever flag is 165 feet.”
Delmer Eldred – Talking about the Democratic majority in Olympia, he asked the Commissioners…..
“Would you commissioners be willing to sign a resolution declaring Klickitat County a constitutional county? Thank you.”
Clint Baze brought up a great way to help fund the 200-foot flagpole idea as a point of Tourism.
Goldendale Mayor Dave Jones thanked the County for their part in Goldendale’s Community Days Celebration.
Valerie Fowler, Columbia River Gorge Commissioner from Klickitat County, gave commissioners and update on what has been going on with the Gorge Commission.
