What phenomenon is caused by the gravitational attraction of the Earth's moon?

The gravitational attraction of the Earth's moon primarily causes ocean tides.  How Tides Work:
  • Near-side bulge: The moon's gravity pulls on the side of the Earth closest to it, stretching the water outward to form a high-tide bulge.
  • Far-side bulge: Inertia and weaker gravitational pull on the opposite side of the Earth cause another water bulge to form away from the moon.
  • Daily cycle: As the Earth rotates, most shorelines pass through these two bulges and two low areas, resulting in two high tides and two low tides each day.
