Meet Stumpy, the world’s oldest living lemur

Stumpy the lemur is a world-record holder.

The 39-year-old ring-tailed primate officially holds the Guinness title for oldest living lemur in captivity. Stumpy was born in England in 1986 and has lived at the Five Sisters Zoo in Scotland since 2005.

So, what’s Stumpy’s secret to long life? Five Sisters senior animal keeper Gemma Varley shares, “He loves to sunbathe and eat fresh browse (his favorite is willow) and he loves sweet potato.”

In his nearly 40 years, Stumpy has sired 11 offspring, and his lineage extends to 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Plus, he lived through the Zoboomafoo lemur craze of the late ’90s and early 2000s, which was surely very exciting.
