WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, released this statement regarding President Trump’s threat to impose a 50% tariffs on imports from the European Union.
“Americans already face a summer of high prices. It is not the time to be threatening new tariffs that drive prices even higher. The European Union is a $19 trillion market with 448 million potential customers for U.S. exports. And it has been an important U.S. ally. Now the E.U. is getting ready for a new trade war when we should be focused on working together to confront Russia and other global challenges.”
