Representatives from The Home Depot and Adventist Health Columbia Gorge celebrated the reopening of Celilo House with a ribbon-cutting on April 24, 2025, following upgrades funded by The Home Depot Foundation and the Adventist Health Columbia Gorge Foundation.
Celilo House provides temporary housing for patients who live far from The Dalles while they are receiving treatment at Celilo Cancer Center. Following closure during the pandemic, the house needed upgrades and repairs to reopen. In stepped The Home Depot with gifts of fencing, decking, new kitchen appliances, landscaping and more totaling almost $5,000. In addition to the grant, Team Depot volunteers gave their time and expertise to repair, paint and install the upgrades.
“Having Celilo House open and ready to give rural patients a comfortable place to stay during treatment reduces their financial worries and lowers the barrier of travel time,” says Jayme Thompson, Adventist Health Columbia Gorge Administrator. “We are so grateful to The Home Depot Foundation for their commitment to making a meaningful difference by helping us improve and reopen this important community asset.”
New bedroom furnishings, living room furniture and other home essentials were provided by the Celilo House Fund, one of the many fundraising initiatives of Adventist Health Columbia Gorge Foundation. Donations to the fund come primarily from Adventist Health employees and are used for upkeep and supplies for the Celilo House.
Patients who would like to use the Celilo House can talk with their care team at Celilo Cancer Center for more information.
