Is there anything better than two animals of different species becoming best friends? We submit that there is not.
The latest addition to that delightful genre of content is a golden retriever named Macy, who turned into a barking machine upon spotting a humpback whale.
Footage of the encounter, posted by The Associated Press, shows Macy riding on a boat with her pet parent, Chrissy Lovitt, through the waters of Hawaii when the whale showed up. As Macy started barking her adorable head off, the whale surfaced above the water, as if to say hi.
“[The whale] heard her barking and he just swam over to meet her,” Lovitt says. “And it was the best day of her life.”
Lovitt is a boat captain who led whale-watching tours before her boats were destroyed in the 2023 Hawaii wildfires. She relaunched the business in December.
