Portland Hiker Located Deceased on Mount Hood

Mount Hood, Ore. — On January 27th, 2025, searchers recovered the body of an overdue hiker on Mount Hood. The hiker was reported overdue on Sunday, January 26th, and ground and air search assets were utilized to locate and recover the hiker.

On Sunday, January 26th, 2025, at approximately 12:00 PM, family called in to report that 38-year-old Robert Tveite of Portland was overdue in returning from a day hike the previous day. According to family, Tveite set out from the Tilly Jane trailhead and was planning to hike the Cooper Spur trail, returning that same afternoon.

Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers with the Hood River Crag Rats were activated, along with the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office airplane. The search operation located Tveite, sadly deceased, and a recovery operation was conducted on Monday, January 27th, 2025, with the assistance of Crag Rats and Portland Mountain Rescue.
