Rep. Chris Corry elected Deputy Leader of Washington State House Republicans

Rep. Chris Corry, R-Yakimahas been elected as the new Deputy Leader of the Washington State House Republicans.

The 14th District (soon to be 15th District) legislator was chosen for the leadership post Saturday during the caucus reorganization meeting.

“I am excited to have been selected by my fellow House Republicans for this new leadership role,” said Corry. “We have a great group of legislators. Our freshman class is excited to work on behalf of the people of Washington state, and I am honored to help lead that vision as we go into the next two years.”

Corry says that vision includes a number of key priorities for House Republicans.

“We are going to be laser focused on making sure that we make Washington as affordable as it can be by reducing the tax burdens on people,” he said. “We will continue our focus on public safety. Washington continues to fall behind the nation in terms of crime and public safety overall, so we are going to make sure we hold the majority and Governor Ferguson to their promises of getting more police on the streets and making it tougher on criminals in our state. That needs to be a focus that transcends political parties to benefit all of Washington.”

Corry was first elected to leadership in 2021 when he was chosen to be an assistant floor leader. That same year, he was named assistant ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, which considers the operating budget and budget-related bills. He was elevated to ranking member of the budget committee in 2023.

As Deputy Leader, Corry will assist House Republican Leader Drew Stokesbary in setting legislative priorities, organizing caucus strategy, and working toward the adoption of bills supported by the caucus, among other duties.

“I want to make sure we get as many Republican priorities passed as possible,” said Corry. “So, in addition to spending some much needed time with family and friends over the holidays, we’re going to be gearing up to help fight for the people and fix Washington.”
