11/06 Wasco County Commissioners meeting

Wasco County Commissioners met yesterday. Among the items on the agenda was a report from Debbie Jones of Youthink, who shared that her organization had received $99,000 from the state’s opioid settlement money to do drug prevention work in the county. Commissioners also approved a modest raise in garbage rates from people living in the county. Jim Winterbottom of The Dalles Disposal explained some of the key changes.

“If you’re a customer of The Dalles Disposal in the rural area, and have a 32-gallon can weekly, currently you’re paying $25.65. An increase of 2.02 percent, or 53 cents per month would be 12 cents per pickup. If you opt for the larger 90-gallon roll cart, you would see an increase of 19 cents per pickup for weekly service.”

The increase was approved unanimously. A similar increase passed The Dalles City Council last week. The new rates take effect on January 1.

And commissioners honored Chelsea Perritt, who worked months putting together the Veterans Stand Down event, which brought all sorts of social service organizations together on behalf of veterans. Commission Chair presented her with a certificate of appreciation, and had this to say about her:

“Chelsea, thank you so much. You’ve been a shining star in every department in the Wasco County team. You have lightened the room. You’ve brought professionalism, teamwork, camaraderie, the whole nine yards. You are definitely an outstanding individual, and we are blessed to have you on our team. [applause]”
